The Zoo Animal Hospital

About our Services

The Zoo Animal Hospital offers a wide range of services.  We have blood machines on the premises for rapid checks of blood chemistry and complete cell counts, coagulation panels, and antifreeze poisoning.
We offer X-ray services with a state-of-the-art Sedecal high frequency machine that minimizes radiation exposure and provides high detail images.
Our anesthesia is with the latest techniques including an Engler 1000 respirator, isoflurane gas, and propofol induction.  We focus on pain management where every surgery is given pre-operative pain medication, general anesthesia and local anesthesia, and go home pain medication tailored to the individual's needs.  Our surgery tables are heated so that your pet stays warm and comfortable.  Finally, we have a LifeWindow 6000 that monitors blood oxygen saturation, ECG, carbon dioxide output, temperature, and blood pressure during anesthesia so any abnormalities can be noted early and corrected before they become problems.
Dr. Mike performs a wide variety of soft tissue surgery from routine spays and neuters to advanced cancer removal.  We have both an Ellman radiosurgery unit and a carbon dioxide laser to minimize the pain, swelling, and bleeding associated with surgery.

This is our reception area.  While getting checked in, you can enjoy "Animal Planet" and see the wide variety of animals that come in to see us.

Our reception desk, where our staff will welcome you to our practice.

The exam room, where Dr. Mike will check your pet from nose to tail.

The surgery suite has state-of-the-art equipment to insure the comfort and safety of your pet.

The Ellman radiosurgery unit allows near bloodless and pain-free incisions.  It is used for almost all surgeries at the Zoo.

This is the Lifewindow 6000 that allows us to monitor heart rate, oxygen saturation in the blood, carbon dioxide in the exhaled breath, ECG, blood pressure, and temperature of your pet while under anesthesia.  On top is the Engler respirator that insures full, deep respirations and a stable depth of anesthesia during surgery.

Abaxis  Vetscan blood machines are fast and reliable, giving results in less than 15 minutes!  They are very similar to the units found in human urgent care centers.

Sedecal makes the finest X-Ray machine available.  This unit is what is known as a "high frequency" machine, that allows incredibly short exposure to radiation with excellent detail.

We use AVImark software for client records.  Each room has it's own computer linked to a central server so your records are easy to read.  Dr. Mike's handwriting is so bad that this was a necessity.  Full print-outs are always available for the asking.

This is our new carbon dioxide laser.  It causes less pain and swelling than regular "cold steel" surgery.  The laser is better at controlling hemorrhage over a larger area than the Ellman radiosurgery unit and thus is especially useful for tumor removals.

This is our ultrasound unit.  With it we can see fine details in tissue that can not be seen using the x-ray machine.
